Dislocation-precipitate Interaction in Discrete Dislocation Dynamics

چکیده
This contribution deals with the numerical simulation of dislocation dynamics by means of parametric mean curvature flow. Dislocations are described as an evolving family of closed and open smooth curves driven by the normal velocity. The equation is solved using direct approach by semi-discrete scheme based on finite difference method. Numerical stability is improved by tangential redistribution of curve points which allows long time computations and better accuracy. Our method contains an algorithm which allows topological changes. The results of the simulation of a dislocation and precipictate interaction are presented.

Multiscale modeling of dislocation-precipitate interactions in Fe: From molecular dynamics to discrete dislocations.
The stress-driven motion of dislocations in crystalline solids, and thus the ensuing plastic deformation process, is greatly influenced by the presence or absence of various pointlike defects such as precipitates or solute atoms. These defects act as obstacles for dislocation motion and hence affect the mechanical properties of the material. Here we combine molecular dynamics studies with three...
متن کاملA computational method for dislocation–precipitate interaction
A new computational method for the elastic interaction between dislocations and precipitates is developed and applied to the solution of problems involving dislocation cutting and looping around precipitates. Based on the superposition principle, the solution to the dislocation–precipitate interaction problem is obtained as the sum of two solutions: (1) a dislocation problem with image stresses...
متن کاملModelling plastic deformation in a single-crystal nickel-based superalloy using discrete dislocation dynamics
Background: Nickel-based superalloys are usually exposed to high static or cyclic loads in non-ambient environment, so a reliable prediction of their mechanical properties, especially plastic deformation, at elevated temperature is essential for improved damage-tolerance assessment of components. Methods: In this paper, plastic deformation in a single-crystal nickel-based superalloy CMSX4 at el...
متن کاملAtomistic-continuum modeling of dislocation interaction with Y2O3 particles in iron
Oxide dispersion strengthened (ODS) steels are promising candidates for applications in fusion and fission rectors. Y2O3 particles dispersed in an iron matrix drastically improve the strength without adverse effects on ductility. We investigate here details of the dislocation core structure in Y2O3 precipitates, and at the interface between the iron matrix and the Y2O3 precipitate. We also simu...
متن کاملModeling the creep threshold stress due to climb of a dislocation in the stress field of a misfitting precipitate
A model for creep threshold stresses in alloys strengthened by coherent, misfitting precipitates is developed for the case where the precipitate is not sheared, and where there are elastic interactions between a dislocation and the precipitate over which it climbs. Calculations of the particle stress field due to a positive stiffness and lattice parameter mismatch between precipitate and matrix...
